EXPERIENCE
1998 to Present: J.A. Barker Engineering, Inc., Bloomington, Indiana

J.A. Barker Engineering, Inc., is the current venue for Mr. Barker's engineering expertise, with concentration on restoration, rehabilitation, and repair, as well as unique solutions to architectural and civil engineering situations.

1973 to 1998: Civil and Structural engineering with Aecon, Inc., Nashville, Indiana

Mr. Barker has been the project engineer on approximately 90 different bridge repair or replacement projects. In this capacity he been responsible for the preliminary scope and design, hydraulic calculations, environmental studies, final design, cost estimates, and construction inspection for the projects. About half of the projects have involved federal aid funding. Other areas of Mr. Barker's work include road design, bridge inspection, and the structural design of commercial buildings. Mr. Barker developed special expertise in the repair and reconstruction of our historic covered bridges and iron trusses, and designed major rehabilitation projects for numorous covered bridges.

1969 to 1973: Structural engineer for Martin Marietta Aerospace, Denver, Colorado

Mr. Barker performed structural analysis work for launch vehicles and spacecraft, including the Viking mission to Mars. He determined loads and stresses that would occur in the spacecraft during powered flight. He also studied the effect that structural vibrations had on the launch vehicle's guidance system.
